In this conversation, we wrestle with the topic of friendship and what we would define as biblical friendships. We know the struggle of finding deep, life-giving friendships. What should a biblical friendship look like and how does it differ from other people we frequently cross paths with? This is the hill Drexel will die on and he mentions 3 C's - Commitment, Continuity & Compassion. He wrote about it here:
Nurturing Meaningful Connections
What is a friend? Last week I wrote an article about loneliness. This week I want to talk more about friendship. I am defining friendship as the commitment, continuity, and compassion that bonds persons in unity. Friends are individuals whose lives are so intertwined with ours that we cannot fully comprehend ourselves and the world without them.
In a culture where we prioritize sports, entertainment and other things - are we willing to prioritize friendships? We talk about the concept of a radical and transformational community. Friendships take hard work, authenticity and a lot of grace, but Christ calls us to this standard of love.
